The port of Leghorn The port of Leghorn (in Italian Livorno), has developed traffic with all the major ports in the world. Every year approximately 5000 ships belonging to 200 shipping companies pass through the port. There are around 300 regular shipping lines mainly with North America, South America, the Middle and the Far East and Australia. Every year the port handles 20 million tons of goods. Apart from containerized traffic the port also deals with bulk liquids and solids, motor vehicles. cellulose pulp and timber, general cargo, minerals and iron manufacturing products, cereals, fruit and frozen product. Thanks to its hinterland (Tuscany, Emilia Romagna, Umbria and Marche) which is particularly rich in entrepreneurial initiaves, Leghorn is able to offer its carriers very interesting, consistent quantities of merchantise. There are specialized terminals equipped with most up-to-date equipment to cater all kinds of merchandise.
